Seniors participate in Transatlantic student voice videoconference

Three Washington Math Science Technology Public Charter High School students participated with teacher Bruce Bradford in the 11th annual International Education Week on Nov. 17 at the U.S. Education Department in Washington.

Seniors Martia Simms-Beard , Cache' Nance and Ne'Miah Millehouse each prepared a brief reflection in the theme of “International learning: Striving for a sustainable future,” during a voice videoconference when when students from the nation's capital were connected with students from England's Black Country. The program was a joint activity of the U.S. Education Department and the U.S. State Department.

U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan gave a brief statement at the beginning of the student voice videoconference. Following First Lady Michelle Obama's WMST graduation speech on June 3, 2009, the school began working closer with the U.S. Education Department. England's Black Country refers to an area in the northern part of England where a number of Caribbean immigrants from former English colonies have settled since the 1970s.

Mr. Bradford serves as Health/Peer Mediation coordinator at WMST PCHS.
