Six WMST students earn DC Science and Engineering Fair awards
At the 2010 DC Science and Engineering Fair, Washington Math Science Technology (WMST) Public Charter High School students entered 31 projects, with six students winning awards. The annual event took place on March 27 at McKinley Technology High School in Washington, and grand prize winners were entered into the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in May.
Diamond Wren earned an Honorable Mention in the Behavioral and Social Science category, while Dashaunna Grogan earned Second Place in the Earth and Planetary Science category, according to Dr. Alice Franklin-Rier, chair of the WMST Science Department.
Alex Duran, a senior who plans to attend Virginia Tech in the fall, won third place in Engineering: Materials and Bioengineering, while Shiesha McNiel earned Honorable Mention in the same category.
Tyleasha Roundtree won the Second Place prize for Microbiology, while Chilufya Mambwe won Third Place for Physics and Astornomy, according to Dr. Franklin-Rier, who was WMST Teacher of the Year last year.
